10 Things You Might Be Doing Wrong In Traffic

things you might be doing wrong in trafficMost of us feel that being caught up in traffic is madding and stressful.  What if I told you that you could be the problem instead of the other guy you yell at!?  We all think we know what we are doing, but as gentlemen we all have room to grow.  Considering the fact that we all sit in traffic too much, we should at least consider being decent to each other.

I am diving into some of the issues that I have personally found to be issues that are caused in traffic.  Some of these are not breaking the law as much as just being kind to others.  However, some have the potential to getting a ticket from a police officer or even worse, shot by another motorist.  Make sure that when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you prepare to do more good than harm.  Find your happy space and be a functioning member of society.

What could you be doing in traffic that is wrong?

  • Creating space for a right hand turn
  • Pull past white lines at intersection
  • Following too close to someone
  • Stopping too close to someone at intersections
  • Queuing up in the wrong place while crossing divided highway
  • Blocking intersections in high traffic
  • Sitting on railroad tracks
  • Speeding off when light turns green
  • You see lights, pull to the right
  • Rubber necking at wrecks

How To Create A Bucket List

bucket listBuilding a bucket list is a major thing to do while you are young.  We all have a limited number of days, hours, heartbeats, and breaths to enjoy.  Many men fear regret in their lives, I know that I do.  I do not want to be on my death bed wondering if I could have sky dived or had a beer in Ireland.  Building a bucket list is not a hard task to accomplish, however, there is a better way to write one.  A bucket list that will stick with you and give you the motivation to complete it.  As a Gentleman you want to be able to tell stories of how you took adventures and met amazing people.  This is your excuse to spend the money and have the best life you can live.

6 Things Solo Backpacking Beginners Need To Know

6 things solo backpacking beginners need to knowBeing a solo backpacker means that you are one that ventures out into the back woods alone to enjoy nature in its silent and raw bliss.  There is not anyone that you can rely on but yourself and your dog that you take with you.  The grit of the trail and the silence of the back country are the only elements that keep your mind from wondering.  Solo backpacking is a wonderful way for gentlemen to be pushed into a whole different mindset that allows you to reset your problems and to really see what you are made of.

I just finished up my first solo backpacking trip a few days ago.  To say that I had a wonderful time is an understatement.  I learned a lot about myself and pushed myself to my limits.  All men should take this opportunity to go out and pick up this hobby for themselves.  It is a great way to learn about yourself.

How To Survive A Flight

how to survive a flightHave you ever wondered why you were told to turn off your cell phone during a flight or to put your seat in an upright position?  After this past flight, I finally started asking these questions.  It is 2016 and a cell phone has the capability to take down a multi million dollar airplane?  You will be surprised how much power your mobile has after this podcast.  I also looked into etiquette on an airplane.  Rather you like it or not, you are stuck with these people for the next few hours.  Do you really want to be that guy that makes life miserable for everyone else?

What about the TSA?  I have seen some wild things be taken away from people and heard about the strangest reasons why they want to touch your underwear.  I wanted to see what are some of the strangest things that you can take on a plane.

Do not forget that around Christmas 2016 I will be putting a book on the market.  The topic will be covering being an Executive Agent for the Family.  This is a step by step guide to taking your families safety into your own hands.  Making sure that you have done everything possible to keep them safe while you are on trips and out of town.  A lot of the topics covered will be 100% new to you and not mentioned on this podcast!  More details to come later.

Have We Lost The Rite of Passage

have we lost the rite of passageAcross the world there are cultures have different ways that they ceremonially bring their children into adulthood.  This is called the rite of passage.  However, we live in a world that protects our children and adults from feeling pain and hurt feelings.  Are there ways that we still have rite of passage ceremony?  Are there ways that we can make our children appreciate their place in nature and in society?  My argument is that the struggle has to be hard to make the reward to be sweet.  I dive into the history and the cultural aspects of the rite of passage that still exist today.  I also get real personal with my plans to have my own ceremony for both myself and my son.  The journey should be a struggle because you deserve to feel proud of your accomplishments.  Join in the conversation by getting involved in the social media and on the forum!  What do you think should be a journey or how are you planning your own?

Camping Like A Gentleman – A Throwback

camping like a gentlemanIf you have never been camping you have not lived yet.   Being outside for a full 24 hours or longer is intoxicating by itself.  You learn a lot about yourself and discover things that you have never known about yourself.  Camping is a learning experience for children by expanding their interests and their imaginations.  Going back to when my grandfather and father took me out to camp as a child brings back memories that I will never forget.  However there is a right and a wrong way to camp.  You cannot just get the family together and run out deep into the woods.  More than likely the people going will not have a very good time.  Start out slow and take things step by step and then work your way up to an enjoyable summer vacation with the family!

Over the next week I will be posting throwback episodes.  The reasoning behind this is two fold.  First is that I am out of the office, however I will still be answering emails, messages, and tweets just at a slower pace.  The second reason is because the new listeners that come to the show each week have not had a chance to see older episodes.  This leaves me in a great position to let older episodes run the podcast for the next few days.  Thank you for understanding.

4 Things You Should Know Before Visiting The Beach

4 things you should know before visiting the beachEvery year millions of people visit the beach for their yearly vacation.  Most people that visit the beach will do it during the summer which is why I have waited until now to do a show related to the subject.  Most of us Gentlemen make sure that we are prepared before we go however there may be a few things that you forgot.  The list that I have prepared for your listening pleasure has a lot to do with safety and then the last part is me stepping into the “Dont Be That Guy” mode where I rip into personal pet peeves that people do at the beach.  The show today is meant to be light hearted and somewhat comical with a touch of information to keep you and your family safe this summer when you go on vacation.

Over the next week all of the shows will be throwbacks.  I will be on vacation allowing my brain to relax and taking some time off to be with my friends and my family.  While I am away, I will be using the social media outlets and answering emails.  Thank you for understanding and I look forward to bringing you more awesome content with a fresh mind.

Surviving A Long Commute

surviving a long commuteOne of the biggest stresses in life is traffic.  As for myself, I hate traffic and would rather sit in a dentist chair than in traffic.  There is a better way to keep yourself from turning into a ball of stress while sitting in traffic.  Your commute is something that you cannot get out of unless you work from home.  From walking, taking the train, or like most of us you drive there are many different ways that you can keep yourself from freaking out during your commute.  As a Gentleman you should be able to keep yourself from stopping your vehicle, getting out, and pummeling your co-commuters.  The Gentleman does not waste time but uses time wisely to either get things done, relax, or able to learn something new.  This is the topic of the day.  I had this topic sent in by a listener of the podcast.  If you ever have a show idea, you are encouraged to get in touch with me.

How can you survive a long commute?

  • Why the commute is so stressful
  • What Gentlemen do and dont do on the road
  • Different ways to survive the commute

What To Do If You Witness a Wreck

what to do if you witness a wreckWe have all seen them in our lives.  Sometimes we are cruising down the road and all of a sudden get into a traffic jam only to find a wreck was the reason.  Sometimes we see them happen right in front of us.  As men we should be able to help, if we want to.  We should, at the least, be able to call in a wreck to 911 without acting like a fool.  There are certain things that I have learned over a career that can be used as useful knowledge to gentlemen like us.  Understand that if you do not want to stop for the wreck, you do not have to.  This is always an option.  Or if you want to just call 911 you can.  The idea is that you should not put yourself into danger just trying to help someone during a wreck.

Today is a short show.  I know I usually get on a talk for a while about the subject on hand but I am literately coming up short on time.  Sometimes there are things that I can do to adjust my schedule to give the show exactly what it needs, but today, and for the next two weeks, is not that time.  Sorry, but this is how things work.

what do you do if you witness a wreck?

  • how do you do so
  • how do you prepare yourself
  • what should you know
  • what should you have with you
  • how to crowd control

Preparing for a Backpacking Trip

hiking-691738_640Most men want to test their grit and the best way to do so is by backpacking.  Backpacking can be a family trip or a self directed test of endurance, but regardless the reason backpacking is something that has to be prepared for.  There are certain things about backpacking that can be done preventive that can make your backpacking trip better and more enjoyable instead of a blister induced sweat fest.  Learning from past trips through the different mountain ranges throughout North Carolina, I have pretty much made as many mistakes as humanly possible.  The topics that need to be covered today regarding backpacking are:

  • Why anyone would want to do this
  • What part of your person does backpacking effect
  • How to choose your time of year for a good trip
  • How to prepare for a long backpacking trip
  • How to mentally prepare
  • What are some things that you need to bring
  • Why someone should know your whereabouts

Today I did use a few resources for research:
