Upgrading Your Home for Cheap

home projects for cheapYour home is your castle.  What happens when your home becomes boring to you?  Springtime is here and it is the time of year that projects start.  Why not spend some time and some money on your house.  You can increase the value and the way that you feel.  Not only that but your children can learn how to do some of these skills through your projects.  Some of my fondest memories were doing projects with my father and grandfather.  I learned a lot from their work.

I have gone through and found a verity of different projects that you can do.  No second mortgage or technical skills required to finish any of these projects.  As men we should be able to complete the smaller projects of this list.  As gentlemen we should be excited to learn how these are done.

What Burglars Dont Want You To Know – Throwback

what burglars dont want you to knowEvery year 2 million people have their homes broken into.  I have hinted on this in podcast past but have never set down and done a show about the tricks that burglars use to victimize us.  If you would like to look back on the show that I talked about this, check out Home Defense.   There are hundreds of people out there that produce these lists and I would advise reading through a few.  The ones that I grabbed from were Readers Digest and SimpliSafe.  With a quick search you will find many resources, just be aware that there is good and bad information out there on this subject.

I have dove into some great resources to bring you tricks that burglars don’t want you to know.  As Gentlemen, we should be concerned about what burglars do and look for when looking for a target.  We can use this information to our advantage by guarding against these horrible acts.  We all want to keep our family safe, especially when they are in the house.  Take these things that former burglars have looked for and make sure that you are guarding against a possible break in.

4 Dad Projects for Spring

4 dad projects for springBeing a dad is one of the best jobs in the world.  I know this because my dad and my grandfather done such a great job teaching me life skills throughout my childhood.  With spring just around the corner, it is a great time to get prepared for some projects to teach your children from.  Understand that there is a golden window that last a few years that a child wants to learn from you.  They want to be around you and will learn anything you teach them.  This is the best time to do these projects with them.  They will not only learn from you but they will keep that knowledge for the rest of their lives.

I am going to talk about 4 different projects that you can include your children in this spring.  Projects that will teach them about construction, vehicles, and self sufficiency.  While doing these projects, please be safe.  Teaching them the ability to do something is just as important as keeping them alive.  I included in the podcast what I would use for building materials but if you feel that you should use something different, please do so.  I have no formal education about construction, just a lot of projects under my belt.

What are the projects that a dad can do this spring?

  • The basics of building a swingset
  • Planting a garden
  • Rebuilding a vehicle
  • Vehicle maintenance

Building a Profitable Homestead

how to build a profitable homesteadEvery man should have some form of homestead.  I have mentioned this in past podcasts ad nauseum.  However, if you were to take a few extra steps you could make the homestead or farm profitable.  This could afford to pay off some of your extra expenses or even so far as to be your full time income.  Even if you do not have land to farm on, there are ways that you can develop and profit from other’s land.  This is not rocket surgery, just laborious and backbreaking work.  However, think about the possibilities it could afford you if you could quit your full time job.

Today I am going to give you the resources to build a homestead that is profitable.  You can take this information and run with it to build the best business you can or just build a really nice landscape.

9 Ways To Be More Independent

independentBeing independent from the systems of support is important for a gentleman to be.  The concept of “the systems of support” should not be confused with “the system” that some people are afraid of.  Systems of support are ways that we get food, water, security, energy, and shelter.  We use these systems to live a life that we want.  We all know, however, these systems can be interrupted with power outages and shortages.

I am going to dive into 9 projects that you can do to make yourself more of an independent person.  You can cook and see when the power is out and you can water your yard with rain you harvest.  Not only will I give you projects but I can make you a more independent thinker.  You should think for yourself and not be manipulated into thinking what others want you to think.  That is a very hard subject to get most gentlemen to come to the understanding that this is necessary to be a more independent person.

However, as a man you should know your limits and when to call someone.  Even though you are the homeowner and you are a man, you have your limits.  Don’t burn your house down because you were too stubborn to call someone.

Getting Your House Prepared For Winter

Getting house ready for winterRather you like it or not, winter is getting close.  We are already seeing signs that fall is here with cool mornings and leaves starting to fall.  There are steps that we all should take to prepare for the cold grip of winter.  These are steps that will keep your house and the resources that you rely on from breaking down prematurely.  This is something that if you are a homeowner you should be working on twice a year.  Once in the spring to prepare for the summer and in the fall to prepare for winter.  Not only should you be preparing your house and vehicle for winter’s grips but if you call yourself a gentleman you should be concerning yourself with the very real possibility that you will encouter an emergency.  Getting your family prepared for winter is also a concern that we will be covering.

In the podcast I mentioned that I would link to a YouTube video that I made as a review on a gutter guard to help keep you from spending a lot of time on your roof.  You can find that video here called Cheap Gutter Guard.

Permaculture Design- Zones

permaculture design zonesIn permaculture design you have the idea and concept of zones.  Zones are a way to organize your property to make sure that the correct plants get the appropriate attention based on the fact that you are going to visit certain areas more often than others.  In other words, we are going to take our excuses and our laziness and design an area that keeps me from working harder than I need to.  When you take into consideration that you can sit down with a bit of information (learned from me and others) and completely transform your property from a money sink into a place where you can grow food and feed your family, it is a topic that gentlemen SHOULD take seriously.  I little bit of work mixed with a lot of information and you can feed your family with nutritious food.

What are permaculture zones?

  • A quick review on permaculture design- sectors
  • What are the permaculture zones
  • How important this is in planning
  • This goes beyond hippy, feel good, hug the trees, positive vibes kind of stuff
  • Why we should consider adding zones to our property
  • Zone 0 through Zone 5
  • How they apply on my property
  • The application on a small suburban lot
  • What it looks like on a huge property
  • How to work your excuses into this design

Where can I learn more about permaculture?

Check out my video series that I started on permaculture.  It is a really great way to see permaculture in practice around my property.  Instead of hearing about it, you can see how it works.

Starting and Caring for a Pool

starting and caring for a poolPools provide a lot of recreational fun and great exercise.  A pool can also be a great source of an income that can make really great income.  As someone that has made a lot of money throughout my childhood, this show is going to be a lot of fun for me.  There are a lot of misconceptions and a lot of confusion about pool and pool maintenance that businesses and the media have started.  Really and honestly pools should be more fun to play in than they are irritating to have.  Just consider yourself enjoying hanging out by the pool with your friends and family without all of the hassle and headache of having all of the crazy chemicals that you hear about in commercials and on the store shelf.

During the show I mentioned another show that you should listen to if you are considering owning a pool.
