Emergencies Men Should Know How To Handle Pt2

emergencies men should know how to handleOne of the scariest things that a man can endure is witnessing emergencies that involve his family.  The blood pressure rises along with the pulse rate and the brain goes into overdrive.  To the normal person the next step would be to freak out and panic.  To the Gentleman however, the next step would be to calm down and start fixing the situation.

This series that I am starting is going to be an accumulation of the most common emergencies that men face on a day to day basis from the standpoint of an experienced first responder.  My goal for these shows is to help men pull themselves together and start being the fixer that his family wants him to be.  Do you want to be that guy that runs around panicking because something just happened to him and his family or do you want to be able to help the situation?

If you have not already, check out part 1 of this mini series found HERE.

Best Apps To Stay Connected While Seperated

best apps to stay connected while seperatedWe all have that time in our lives that we are forced to be in a separate location than our families.  None of us enjoy having to do this, but it is apart of being in a world that is in constant motion.  This does not give us the excuse to allow ourselves to close our eyes to what could effect them.  We have the ability to download certain apps to our phones to alert us when something is going on where our family is located.  These apps can push notify you when there are storms, riots, or other emergencies that you should know about.  Make sure you are doing the gentleman thing and keep track of what is happening around your family instead of just hoping that nothing will happen.

The apps that are mentioned in the show today are not in any way affiliated by Skilled Gentlemen Podcast.  Please understand that these are suggestions and you should use them at your own will.

Why Long Term Stored Food Belongs In A Gentlemans Pantry

why long term stored food belongs in a gentlemans pantryNumanna is a company that takes the long term food stored business and absolutely obliterates the competition.  They accomplish this by taking care to make sure their meals are not only nutritious but over engineering their packaging to make it last 25+ years.  Numanna brings a product to the table for everyone regardless of your allergies or food restrictions by being up front about what is in their packaging.  They include options that are GMO free, easy to prepare, organic super foods, gluten free, lactose free, and other allergies that you may want to avoid.  I brought Daniel on the show today to talk to us about Numanna and why you should consider adding long term stored food to your insurance program.  The fact that you know that you can feed your family during a time where a disaster can be ripping through your family is something that you should take very serious in your own life.  You can find Numanna’s social media links for Facebook, Twitter, Google+

What Men Keep On Their Flash Drive

what men keep on their flash driveI know a lot of men that are tech junkies.  They eat, live, and breathe technical stuff.  We all have these little devices in and around our homes called the flash drive.  They are so much more than just a way to get your papers to a printer or to store old paperwork on.  Today I am going to discuss what men should keep on their flash drive.  Or might I say flash drives, because after I get done with the show today you will want to go out and purchase a hand full of these little life savers.  I am also going to discuss how to make the flash drive a protective tool for your house and how they can save your computer from prying eyes or even make them useless to a thief.  If you like technical talk, this is your show!

Making Your Home More Private

making your home more privateIn a world that is obsessed with everyone knowing what they are eating, where they are going, and who they are with the possibility of crime occurrence because of it is a lot higher.  As Gentlemen we should be more aware of what we are putting out to the world instead of being worried that our friends know when we are cutting the grass.  With the rise of business that will monitor your credit and make sure that no one has stolen your identity, it makes one wonder, is there anything that we could be doing to make our homes more private?  Maybe just the addition of a few bushes will keep the neighbors from complaining that there is a tomato plant in the back yard.  What if I told you that a private yard and a private home is more valuable than a home that is in the wide open to most buyers.  With all of this being the case, we should consider taking steps to safeguard our family in many different ways that will in turn make our homes safer and more private.

Prepping 101- Energy

prepping 101 energyEnergy is something that we all use every single day of our lives.  When we wake up by the alarm clock, turn on the lights, take a hot shower, brew our coffee, watch the morning news, and so on throughout our day.  All of the aforementioned items above uses energy.  What happens when the energy is not there?  Our lives get interrupted in a way that some cannot function.  This should not be the case in a Gentleman’s life.  Especially when it comes to caring for the family.  Prepping is such a bad word that people like to abuse.  My challenge is to convey to your that it is not a bad word.  Arguably it is not a word for you to tell all of your friends about right away, but a concept that you should really consider adding to your life.  Just from the aspect that it is for the longevity of your family should be enough to consider building this into your life.  Join me today as I dig into how to store, capture, and in general keep more energy in your lives.

How can we build REDUNDANCY in our lives with Energy

  • Why prepping matters
  • How do we prepare to satisfy our energy need as it relates to

Prepping 101- Food

Prepping 101- FoodThere has been very little people that have lived that could or want to go a day without food.  The food industry is a multi billion dollar industry.  This means that we should take this subject seriously.  Our families need to eat, regardless of the situation at hand.  Just because there is an emergency, no matter what kind, we all need to put calories into our bodies.  The concept of living day to day with food is one that is foolish.  There is a plethora of different reasons why it is foolish, so we should be storing food.  Today I dive into everything I know about storing food.  From the absolute basics to excuses to give if someone finds your stash.

This begins the shorter series about prepping.  We all have our 5 basic needs and I am going to dive into all of them.  The reason why is so that we can all be prepared to satisfy our needs to keep not only us alive but our families alive.  If you have any information or want to be a guest on the show to explain your methods of prepping, please contact me.  Contact information below.

What are the basics of storing food?

    • how do you do this?
    • How much is enough?
    • How do I keep it from rotting?
    • Where should I store it?
    • How can I keep my costs low?

Preparing For A Job Loss

preparing for job lossGoing back to 2008, we all saw jobs being lost and worried if we were next.  There is always a possibility that we could loose our jobs and be forced to make difficult decisions financially.  As men we will just stand in fear and hope for the best.  As gentlemen we will prepare for the worst and then reap the benefits if nothing happens.  When you look at what could be the benefits of being prepared for a job loss and how not being could be an issue to your family, the decision to work towards this goal is a no brainier.  As gentlemen and family men should be ready to handle job loss with stride and be prepared to step up our game.  There is even a way to benefit from a job loss, it is all just in how you look at it.

I spoke about analyzing your Net Worth in the show today.  Check out the podcast where I went into depth on the subject http://skilledgentlemen.com/2016/01/27/increasing-your-net-worth/

Our Responsibility To Water

our responsibility to waterMost of the earth is covered with water.  This is a concept that was drilled into our heads when we were back in grade school.  The subject of the podcast today is not how much water is around the world, but how we should use it more responsibly.  I am not going to ask you to take up arms and start a riot or to quit your job to start being an activist.  I am asking you today to stop and think about how you can conserve.  How you could do a project to better use the water that we are letting go to waste.  I’m asking you to take your families health in mind with what they are drinking.  There are a lot of chemicals that are allowed in our water and none of which I want going in my family.  This is not to be an alarm to anyone, but a starting point to be more self reliant.  Just start off with this and start doing your own research to make your own opinions.

How can we be more responsible with water?

  • The survival law of 3s
  • What is actually in tap water
  • Water is getting more and more scarce
  • The concept of a rain barrel
  • What are swales and how do they help
  • What can you do everyday to help
