Why Are People Afraid of Survivalism – Throwback Episode

why people are afraid of survivalismWe hear a lot in the media about “that crazy survivalist” or “those paranoid preppers” ruining things for everyone and how they are some of the worst people.  Well if you can imagine, we are not that way.  However there is a since of fear that people have in their heads that we are crazy, eccentric, hermits that live in a bunker living on nothing but MREs.  That is not true for the majority of us, however there is a fear involved when people start talking about prepping.  When I get into a conversation with others about survivalism they always to their favorite excuses on why they are not into survivalism which includes prepping.

This is what I am discussing today.  Why are people so afraid of survivalism and then at the end I speak about quick and easy ways to get started with prepping.  To me survivalism is a word that I associate with responsibility.  Responsibility for my family and responsibility for myself.  Stop being so afraid and MAN UP!

Being A Leader – Throwback

being a leaderRather you know it or not, you are a leader.  You are a leader in your home, workplace, and in your social circle.  There are people that are looking at you and trying to figure out what makes you such a great person.  People are looking at you and trying to analyze how they can be just like you.  The concern that has to be discussed is are you being a great leader or are you being a crappy leader?  Are you making decisions based on convenience or because they are the right thing to do.

Can you say that the people that you influence are going to be great themselves or are they going to be people that you loathe?  This is the topic of the day.  How to be an leader.  There are many schools of thought in which great leaders are picked apart and their decision scrutinized to make a list of attributes.  The best list that can be made is the list that you come up with.  Sit down one day and make your own list of attributes that make the best leaders.

14 Skills to Teach your Children

14 skills to teach your childrenYour children are sponges for knowledge.  You have to teach them the skills that they will need to survive in the world.  Your children look to many different people for inspirations on how they should act.  Movie characters, people in music videos, YouTube creators, and anyone else that may catch their eye.  They see how the character acts and associates that with how they should act.  You, as a gentleman, should have already been teaching them before this happens.  A gentleman should always be a beacon of how to act in any situation.  You should be teaching your children the skills and concepts they need to be a gentleman themselves, no matter their gender.

Today’s podcast episode is about just that.  We dive into 14 different skills that you should teach your children.  These range from conceptual skills like spotting abusive relationships to hard skills like using a knife.

What is Grit

what is gritIf you ever wondered what grit was, just think about when times got hard for you.  You hit the wall but you had a little voice in the back of your mind.  That little voice that said “keep going, keep pushing”.  Grit is that drive that you feel when you wake up in the morning and your muscles are sore.  Your alarm clock is going off and it is super cold outside.  You want to hit the snooze button but that drive and tenacity that you have makes you get up and push forward for the day.  Your drive is important to your success in life.  You are not going to meet your goals and receive the accolades that you desperately want by not having the grit to keep you going during the hard times.

Today I am going to talk about what is grit and really dive into the percentages of success.  The quote goes that 80% of success is just showing up everyday and 20% is everything else.

Breaking Away from the Pack – Throwback Episode

breaking away from the packIf you ever needed a kick in the ass, today is your show.  In our everyday life we have packs of people that we are forced to interact with.  There is a chance that some of these people are not like us.  There is a chance that some of these people are losers and should be let go.  We need to, as gentlemen, be able to spot this pack and break away from it to be better husbands, fathers, grandfathers, leaders, business owners, and employees.  There are goals to be met and money to be made, what are you doing in your everyday walk to make these dreams come true and to make these goals reality.

Most of the pack that we interact with are not willing to make themselves better and not willing to do more than what they have to do to get the job done, we are not these people.  Remember my challenge to write down your goals and at the bottom destroy your pen by making sure you are clear that its not over until I win.  I mentioned in the show that I am willing to be apart of your pack and was absolutely serious about this.  If you have a goal or a dream and have no one to talk to about it, email me at skilledgentlemen@gmail.com and let me be apart of your pack.  I am appreciative of everyone that contacts me and promise that I am a very approachable person.

What I Wish I Knew In High School – Wednesday Throwback

what i wish i knew in high schoolHigh School, for many people, was one of the hardest things to get through.  For me personally, it was just a major annoyance. I just wanted out with the least amount of damage possible.  People are mean and hateful and try to put you down just so they can feel better about themselves.  Everyone believes that this is the best time in their life.  The problems that they encounter now will be worse than the ones that are to come.  Most of this is nonsense, however we do not speak about this to our children and our young community.  Usually they are the ones that get pushed around and ignored, left to come up with their own views on how reality actually works in the real world.

Hopefully today I will have challenged you to take matters into your own hands and speak with your children about what you wish you knew in high school.  Along with that, take some time to think about what you wish you knew in high school and comment on the Facebook page what you think.

Remember that September is Suicide Awareness Month and we all should see the warning signs of this.  We may not like to think about this but it is not like a gentleman to shy away from things that we dont like to think about.  Learn the signs to help prevent a possible issue in your or your families lives.

Emergencies that Gentlemen should handle – Throwback Episode

emergencies men should know how to handleOne of the scariest things that a man can endure is witnessing emergencies that involve his family.  The blood pressure rises along with the pulse rate and the brain goes into overdrive.  To the normal person the next step would be to freak out and panic.  To the Gentleman however, the next step would be to calm down and start fixing the situation.  This series that I am starting is going to be an accumulation of the most common emergencies that men face on a day to day basis from the standpoint of an experienced first responder.

My goal for these shows is to help men pull themselves together and start being the fixer that his family wants him to be.  Do you want to be that guy that runs around panicking because something just happened to him and his family or do you want to be able to help the situation?

What Emergencies should men be able to handle?

  • what is a first responder

Have we lost Rites of Passage? – Throwback Episode

have we lost the rite of passageAcross the world there are cultures have different ways that they ceremonially bring their children into adulthood.  This is called the rite of passage.  However, we live in a world that protects our children and adults from feeling pain and hurt feelings.  Are there ways that we still have rite of passage ceremony?  Are there ways that we can make our children appreciate their place in nature and in society?  My argument is that the struggle has to be hard to make the reward to be sweet.

I dive into the history and the cultural aspects of the rite of passage that still exist today.  I also get real personal with my plans to have my own ceremony for both myself and my son.  The journey should be a struggle because you deserve to feel proud of your accomplishments.  Join in the conversation by getting involved in the social media and on the forum!  You should plan your own passage and have your own journey.

Are you a soft man or a hard gentleman – Throwback Episode

are you a soft manI have been hearing a lot about men being soft here lately.  I sat down to do some research on this phenomenon and came back with the fact that men are becoming really soft.  There is that section of men in the world that have certain attributes about them and have no idea why no one wants to be around them.  People talk bad about them because they are not manning up and taking charge of their responsibilities.  Today’s show is an effort to bring light to this fact and hopefully encourage you to change this out of your life.  To make that effort to go from a soft man to a hard gentleman.  Not only do our families expect it but they deserve to have a hard gentleman in their lives.

    • Get stuff done
  • How can our children learn from this list
  • You should make your own list
