getting started in the gymThe gym is a place where sweat and determination merge.  A place where men are made.  Getting started at the gym may be one of the hardest tasks to accomplish just behind staying at the gym.  But before we go to the gym we have to find one, or do we?  There are plenty of options to choose from when you are trying to find a way to do some strength training.  From finding the traditional place to workout to creating your own we discuss what to look for and how to build what you need.  

Just like with everything else we talk about on Skilled Gentlemen Podcast, everything fits together and cannot be separated out so easy.  If you want to fit into your old jeans or to look good at the beach you need to hit the trifecta.  You have to get in and workout, which is covered today.  You have to get in the kitchen, which you can find all about in the health tag.  Lastly you need sleep which will be covered soon enough.

Run Your Kitchen Like A Master Chef

master chefIt is no secret that food brings people together.  For centuries we have come together with food.  It makes sense that a Gentleman needs to be able to put something together that tastes good.  A chef is someone that can make cheap invariance taste like an expensive meal.  This means that you can do the same thing that a master chef does to make a great meal for your family.

I am going to give you a few secrets and ways to run your kitchen like a master chef.  Completely redoing the way that your family does meal time is hard to do.  You have to make the effort to do this because it does matter.  You have to be willing to sacrifice your time in an effort to bring the family together.  Being a chef is one way to slow the family down and get them away from their screens.  Take these skills and these suggestions to be that element of change in your own families life.  It is not hard.

Building an Expert Level First Aid Kit – Throwback Episode

building first aid kitMedical emergencies can happen in a heartbeat and to anyone.  Having a first aid kit with you can end up being the difference between that person living or dying.  But understand there is one tool in there that everyone has to have and it absolutely makes or breaks that kit, it is your education.  So as gentlemen we need to take an approach that others have bypassed and shortcut for years and has led to many people being hurt or even made things worse because of the inexperienced.  So tune in today and learn the easy way to make your medical bag the right way and not kill someone during your progress.

Education is no joke.  You have to be trained to make sure that you are doing things correct and at the correct time.  If you give a wrench to someone that does not know how to do plumbing is useless.  Putting the same wrench in the hands of a plumber is a whole different story.  The difference between the two people is the education and experience.  Classes are not hard to find, just look up your local community college or your local YMCA.  They offer classes all of the time.

Tools to help meet your Health Goals

Taking Care of Dogs – Mans Best Friend

caring for dogsDogs are truly mans best friend.  They want you when you are away and feel horrible when they know they messed up.  Dogs will, in some cases, give their lives to make sure yours is safe.  Considering that they do so much for us, why don’t we try to do better for them?  Caring for a dog is not rocket surgery but it can get confusing with marketing efforts from companies.  We need to know how to look through the marketing and really learn how to care for our buddies.

How Resilient are You?

how resilient are youOne of the hallmarks of a Gentleman is being resilient.  Being able to bounce back from a hard situation is something that not many people are able to do.  I do believe that is a big reason why people are as depressed and sad today.  The good news is that resiliency is not something that you are born with.  Being resilient is a skill that is developed over time.  Developed through hard times and coming out on the other end of it being a better person.

Today I am going to give you the tools to be a more resilient person in your own life.  There are seven ways that you can develop your own resiliency in this podcast.  That does not mean that this is it.  I would encourage you to find your own way to be a more optimistic person in your own way.  It is the greats among people that are resilient enough to take a setback and come out the other end better than what they were before.

homemade herbal teaWe all know that herbal tea is healthy for us.  It is not any secret because there is so much data that we are exposed to on a regular basis.  However, some of the teas are not that great tasting and some have names that have to be explained.  Growing your own herbal tea is not that difficult.  As a matter of fact, once you get the peppermint established, it is one of the hardiest plants that you will ever come across.

I brought on Ryan from Red Dragon Herbs and Tea to help us understand how easy it is to grow our own tea.  Not only is he going to give us instructions on how to grow it but he is going to give us 4 different recipes on how to use it.

Be a Beacon of Positivity

beacon of positivityThe Gentleman is a Beacon of positivity and happiness in a fog of hate and negativity.  This is the topic of the day.  We all know that guy that you cannot have a conversation with without him complaining or whining about something.  As a gentleman, we should be wanting to attract people in our lives, not push them away.  I am going to give you my best tactics on how to stay positive in a world that is bent on focusing on the negative.

We just got through one of the worst presidential elections in recent history.  This election has done a lot to further divide the nation into different camps.  With all of the negative thinking and negative talk that has been thrown around, there is a need to people to be positive.  Not only does it make everyone happier, but it is clinically proven to have very positive health benefits.  Who needs more to know than you can live longer just by being a positive person!?

How To Stay Fit Through The Holidays

staying fit through the holidaysThanksgiving and Christmas is the hardest time of year to stay on your health program.  Staying fit and active is a tough thing to keep up when there are holiday parties and large amounts of food available.  Foods that aren’t served but once a year.  Staying fit is something that you have worked really hard toward the past 10 months.  So how does a Gentleman stay in shape so that the suit fits and the swimsuit looks good 6 months from now?

I am personally getting out of my food coma and wish I had followed my own advice yesterday.  However, we can all gain from this podcast today in preparation for Christmas.  If staying fit is your goal, you have to be prepared to limit yourself and be hard.  Don’t worry, it is all worth it in the end!
