Are You A Soft Man Or Hard Gentleman

are you a soft manI have been hearing a lot about men being soft here lately.  I sat down to do some research on this phenomenon and came back with the fact that men are becoming really soft.  There is that section of men in the world that have certain attributes about them and have no idea why no one wants to be around them.  People talk bad about them because they are not manning up and taking charge of their responsibilities.  Today’s show is an effort to bring light to this fact and hopefully encourage you to change this out of your life.  To make that effort to go from a soft man to a hard gentleman.  Not only do our families expect it but they deserve to have a hard gentleman in their lives.

Are you a soft man? How do you fix this!

  • Where I feel like this bashing came from
  • Why I didn’t like reading those posts
  • How can you define a soft man
  • My steps to becoming a hard gentleman
    • Stop Complaining so much
    • Follow through with your plans
    • Take your responsibilities to heart
    • Don’t be afraid of confrontation and don’t be a butt head
    • Get stuff done
  • How can our children learn from this list
  • You should make your own list

There were no usable sources from research.  After reading a few I decided to not use that information and come up with my own.

Concert Lawn Ticket Etiquette- Throwback Episode

concert lawn seat etiquetteConcerts are so much fun to go to but they can be very expensive.  Getting lawn tickets are the way to go when you are looking for cheap seats.  There is a way to act and do while you are in the seats to make sure you are not being “That guy” that I am calling concert lawn ticket etiquette.  This is the idea that you are not the only person there and there is a level of respect for others that you should have in the back of your mind while you are there.  Understand the the etiquette should not be so strict that you do not have a good time but etiquette enough to allow others to enjoy the show also.  Lawn tickets are a whole different beast than the regular seats.

Over the next week I will be posting throwback episodes.  The reasoning behind this is two fold.  First is that I am out of the office, however I will still be answering emails, messages, and tweets just at a slower pace.  The second reason is because the new listeners that come to the show each week have not had a chance to see older episodes.  This leaves me in a great position to let older episodes run the podcast for the next few days.  Thank you for understanding.

4 Things You Should Know Before Visiting The Beach

4 things you should know before visiting the beachEvery year millions of people visit the beach for their yearly vacation.  Most people that visit the beach will do it during the summer which is why I have waited until now to do a show related to the subject.  Most of us Gentlemen make sure that we are prepared before we go however there may be a few things that you forgot.  The list that I have prepared for your listening pleasure has a lot to do with safety and then the last part is me stepping into the “Dont Be That Guy” mode where I rip into personal pet peeves that people do at the beach.  The show today is meant to be light hearted and somewhat comical with a touch of information to keep you and your family safe this summer when you go on vacation.

Over the next week all of the shows will be throwbacks.  I will be on vacation allowing my brain to relax and taking some time off to be with my friends and my family.  While I am away, I will be using the social media outlets and answering emails.  Thank you for understanding and I look forward to bringing you more awesome content with a fresh mind.

A Reply to #KidsTodayin4Words

a response to #KidsTodayin4WordsIf you have not figured it out yet, I am on twitter and can be found at @skilledgent.  I was playing around on twitter the other day and found a trending hashtag that worked me up and ended up becoming the topic of today’s show.  It was #KidsTodayin4Words.  I found it very disturbing some of the crap that I saw on there.  It turns out that people have no idea how to raise their children.  They have no idea that they were the same way back when they were kids.  It was amazing to read some of the complaining that people do and really how quickly they resort to violence to solve a problem that does not require, or even need, violence.  This show is dedicated to those who have no idea how to be a Gentleman in a situation that calls for education and resorts to beating a child.  I remember how it was growing up, and I can empathize with children of today with their escapism.  Sometimes instead of being mad about the situation you might have to redirect their energy.  It takes a Gentleman to have the mindset to handle someone that they might not agree or understand.  Check out the disgusting train wreck that is #KidsTodayin4Words.

Why are people so angry in #KidsTodayin4Words

  • What is parenting?
  • Why children are the way they are
  • How they are exactily like us

Don’t Be That Guy Emergency PSA

Idont be that guy emergency public service announcement started out a few years back by stating that “I am trying my best to keep you from being that guy.  Today will mark the second installment of the series where I discuss what I mean by this phrase.  There are a lot of people out there that leave me asking the question, “why”.  That when there is a need or where there is a job for them to do, they shy away.  Or when their family needs them to grow up and be a man, they cower in the corner and hope for a solution to smack them in the face.  I am here to drench you in some cold truth.  Today’s show is a double edged sword in which it is entertaining and very truthful.  If you are apart of this group of people that I am going to discuss today, you need to either grow up or man up, take your pick.  Not all of it is me getting perturbed though.  Some is meant to be pure entertainment.  My blood pressure dropped toward the end.

If you are the The “I lost my job, I’m looking for something better” guy then you need to listen to my show I did a few weeks ago called Preparing For A Job Loss.

WHat is in the CATEGORY of “that guy”?

  • My own personal Emergency Broadcast
  • The “I lost my job, I’m looking for something better” guy
  • The “I’m too important to move over on the road” guy
  • The “I only had 2 beers, I can drive” guy
  • The “I am going to do my entire set in front of the dumbbell rack” guy
  • The “I didn’t know that I sweated that much on the bench” guy
  • How we can make this a regular podcast

No resources were used in the show, just my frustration.

Don’t Be That Guy Explained

that guyI have said in just about every episode, “Don’t be that guy”.  But what guy am I talking about?  What am I trying to convey to you when I say, don’t be that guy?  There are so many “that guy” kind of people out there that it is kind of sickening.  Those traits that you look at and consider acidic or distasteful.  They are out there and I am going to expose it best I can.  I don’t just want to expose the problem people.  I am going to make sure I give you some ways to get out of that kind of mindset.  There are remedies for everything that is discussed, you just have to be prepared to consider them and change.  The show today should be pretty funny but also kind of sad considering that I have to expose these people.  We shouldn’t have let these kinds of people in the world to be this way.  The time to change is now.  As mentioned in the show, don’t be the voice of change, be the act of change.  Actions speak louder than words, and as gentlemen our actions are explosions in the dead of silence.

What do i mean by “don’t be that guy”

    • what guy am I talking about
    • how can we avoid being that guy
    • why did I choose that tagline
    • how does it speak to my audience

Being A Leader

being a leaderRather you know it or not, you are a leader.  You are a leader in your home, workplace, and in your social circle.  There are people that are looking at you and trying to figure out what makes you such a great person.  People are looking at you and trying to analyze how they can be just like you.  The concern that has to be discussed is are you being a great leader or are you being a crappy leader?  Are you making decisions based on convenience or because they are the right thing to do.  Can you say that the people that you influence are going to be great themselves or are they going to be people that you loathe?  This is the topic of the day.  How to be an leader.  There are many schools of thought in which great leaders are picked apart and their decision scrutinized to make a list of attributes.  The best list that can be made is the list that you come up with.  Sit down one day and make your own list of attributes that make the best leaders.

What can be said about being a leader?

  • Great leaders of history and their bio
  • What makes great leaders
  • What makes terrible leaders
  • How can we teach or children to be leaders
  • How can we show our children to be leaders

A Gentleman’s Guide To Cologne

a gentleman's guide to cologneHave you ever been in a room and smelled someones cologne well before they stepped into the room?  I am talking about being in the middle of a conversation and get hit by a mac truck of smell and then the guy steps in.  Or when you are getting done working out and walk toward the locker room and have to don a hazmat suit just to get through the fog that is axe spray?  Today we are going to discuss how it should be used.  Contrary to popular belief, cologne should not be an offensive weapon.  Cologne should be discovered when a lady gets close to you.  With this next show in the ever going series of the Gentlemen’s Guide I am going to explain how you should apply your cologne in a way that lures women to you instead of repels them away.

Don’t be that guy, listen to a gentleman’s guide to cologne

    • how much is too much
    • Which one works better
      • body wash

    • what is the best way to apply it
      • spray and walk through
      • spray on wrist and put on neck
      • spray directly on clothes
    • how is it made

Cell Phone Etiquette – A Gentlemen’s Guide

Cell Phone Etiquette - A Gentlemen's GuideEveryone has a cell phone now.  Your children has a cell phone, your grandparents has a cell phone, but what annoys me and everyone around me is how we have not developed an etiquette.  Maybe we have, but have we… wait a moment… yeah, no I can talk… Okay, sorry, now I am back and I swear I am more interested in this conversation.  Maybe we have figured out an cell phone etiquette but have we implemented it?  I would ague that is has not based on how society has developed our lives along side our distraction device.

I do enjoy my cell phone and I do use it to acomplish different tasks.  However, I have employed a set of rules that I do not violate.  An etiquette that I will not go behind because I put more stock with face to face interaction versus over the cell phone.

How do we employee our own cell phone etiqutte?

    • when we answer our phones
    • What dictates an emergency
    • when is texting appropriate
    • no cell phone zones

Remember that I am taking the last 2 weeks off of December from the podcast.  I will still have Email service, and I will be on the Facebook page.  I am just taking time away from the show.  The reason is because I need to do some reflection and figure out where I want the show to go next year.
