Winterizing Your Home and Vehicle – Skilled Gentlemen Throwback

winterizing home and vehicleThe winter months are upon us.  From the past two shows I have been talking about getting ready for the winter.  This is something that we should all be thinking about and proactively working towards getting ready for.  Winterizing your home and vehicle takes little effort and can save you a lot of money and headache.  So in other words your rate of return of investment is super high for this project or projects.  I personally will be doing most of these things that I am talking about today.  Lets get serious about this though.  We have to work towards keeping our families warm without blowing up the budget.  We also need to make sure our vehicles are winterizing to do their job just in case we have an emergency.

Winterizing your home and vehicle is not a hard task to do, but there needs to be a high rate of return on your investment per project to keep you doing it every year.

Increasing Your Net Worth

increasing your net worthDo you know your net worth?  Regardless of if you like it or not, finances play a large roll in everyone’s lives.  We cannot focus solely on the subject of Net Worth, however it should be cognizant of it for many reasons.  The whole concept at first sounds like a complete waste of time to calculate.  The only people this really matters to are the wealthy and extremely wealthy.  After doing research on the topic I found that keeping up with your Net Worth is an extremely important tool, even for the common gentleman.  The idea is having a snapshot of what your money is doing for you and what your purchases are doing for you.  This can be useful when figuring out if your budgeting is working and if you are planning for the future.  Money is a topic that many people shy away from which can be a horrible thing.  Don’t be too worried about money, but do not ignore what could be staring right at you in for form of a red net worth total.

I do plan to start doing a lot more with the topic of finances.  If you know about dealing with money or work within the industry, please contact me with your information.  I would love to pick your brain at the benefit of the listenership.  Details for contacting me are below.

Why should gentlemen think about their new worth?

  • What does Net Worth mean?
  • Should we care about our Net Worth?
  • How do we calculate it?
  • How can we increase our Net Worth?

What To Do If You Witness a Wreck

what to do if you witness a wreckWe have all seen them in our lives.  Sometimes we are cruising down the road and all of a sudden get into a traffic jam only to find a wreck was the reason.  Sometimes we see them happen right in front of us.  As men we should be able to help, if we want to.  We should, at the least, be able to call in a wreck to 911 without acting like a fool.  There are certain things that I have learned over a career that can be used as useful knowledge to gentlemen like us.  Understand that if you do not want to stop for the wreck, you do not have to.  This is always an option.  Or if you want to just call 911 you can.  The idea is that you should not put yourself into danger just trying to help someone during a wreck.

Today is a short show.  I know I usually get on a talk for a while about the subject on hand but I am literately coming up short on time.  Sometimes there are things that I can do to adjust my schedule to give the show exactly what it needs, but today, and for the next two weeks, is not that time.  Sorry, but this is how things work.

what do you do if you witness a wreck?

  • how do you do so
  • how do you prepare yourself
  • what should you know
  • what should you have with you
  • how to crowd control

Tools For Every Mans Toolbox

wrench-717684_640There has not been a day in a mans life where a tool was needed or could have been used to make a project easier to complete but with all of these master toolboxes out there, where do you start?  Today I take you though my three main toolboxes and give a little insight on how these tools are used and how they are handled.  At the end I spend a little bit of time to help you not be the guy that borrows the tool and gives it back in worse shape than when borrowed.

Join me as I discuss:

  • How to get your show topic covered
  • Why I keep multiple boxes
  • What tools do I use for woodworking
  • What tools are used for vehicle maintenance
  • Tools for everyday use
  • Tools meant for basic work

Didn’t hear your favorite tool on todays show, let me know about it! Picture from: http://pixabay.com/en/wrench-spanner-repair-fix-toolbox-717684/

Driving like a Gentleman

StateLibQld_1_118784_Man_driving_a_car_in_the_WWI_peace_procession,_Brisbane,_1919When people think of defensive driving they think of driving school when they were a teenager.  I am here to say that is not enough.  As gentlemen we need to understand that road rage and aggressive driving is a real problem and can lead to worse problems than getting to work late because you were behind someone slow.  There is a serious problem in this nation and world when there are statistics of people dying from road rage.  Our families are the ones we hold close and when we are acting like a fool on the road, we put them in danger.  So I present to you a list of things that we can do to change our notions of defensive driving and be gentlemen on the road.

Today we will talk about:

  • Statistics on Aggressive driving and road rage
  • Why this topic is important to gentlemen
  • How we can be safer on and off the roads

During the show I mentioned a few websites:

Pre-Trip Inspections for a Road Trip

StateLibQld_1_114320_Silvio_Campanotti_posing_next_to_a_Studebaker_car,_Ingham,_1940The pre-trip inspection of a vehicle could mean rather you get to your destination to enjoy your time away from daily grind or spend it in a garage or worse, the hospital.  The topic of today’s show was brought to you by my latest excursion to the mountains with my wife.  After a long weekend of enjoying friends and family along with some surprising smooth single malt Scottish whiskey we had a wonderful time.  You can see a few of the pictures from the trip on my Twitter feed.  Before we left for the mountains I preformed a vital ritual that has been handed down to me from generations of well prepared men.  The pre-trip inspection.  There is a right way and a wrong way to do these and could end up making the trip a great story or a tragedy.

Today’s topic includes:

  • Why this is important for a gentleman to preform?
  • Why it should be taken serious
  • How to preform your inspection
  • What to look for and what tools are needed
  • A few pro tips for your trip
  • The reason why you need a map
  • Rental car concerns
