How A Medic Deals With A Snakebite

how a medic deals with a snakebiteAround the world, every single day, someone gets a snakebite.  Rather or not the snake is poisonous or if the possibly poisonous snake actually put venom in you can be figured out later at the hospital.  I am not going to discuss how to figure out the snake but what you should do if it happens.  This is an emergency medical situation that has to be understood because it could potentially be a life threatening situation.  A snakebite can happen in a split second and the first thing that people what do to is run away.  Wrong.  Then they want to use some ancient and outdated information about how to deal with the snakebite like cutting and sucking out the venom.  Wrong.  So what are you supposed to do?  Listen to the podcast today where I, as a trained medic, explain what I would do in this situation and then what the experts say to do.  Along with this life saving information you really need to learn about some misconceptions that people have about snakes.  We do have to make sure we are taking care of our ecosystems and learn how to interact in our environments.  Also I wanted to throw in some “Gee-whiz” information.  I really think you will enjoy the show today and also learn how to keep you and your family save through the summer.

    • What are the most dangerous snakes around the world
    • How do you keep from getting bit
    • How do you treat a snake bite in the field

Prepping 101- Shelter

prepping 101 shelterYour home is your shelter and your castle.  Take a hot second right now and think about what you would do if your home was taken away from you.  This can be in the form of it burning down, knocked over, blown apart, washed away, or foreclosed on.  All of these are disasters and should be considered apart of your plan to survive just in case something does effect your shelter.  This series I have taken a further look into the five survival needs.  They are food, water, security, energy, and shelter.  I have already spoken on Food and Energy and can be found by clicking on the hyperlinks provided.  Your idea may be that you can hunker down in the woods for an extended period of time or until things go back to normal, but will your family be safe, secure, or warm?  Join me today as we dive into the different aspects of keeping your shelter ready for a disaster.

Keep in mind that four year old Katarina needs our help to purchase a diabetic alert dog.  Her story and how you can help can be found in the podcast where I interviewed her and her parents.  Man Up and donate to her go fund me page.

How To Survive A Dog Attack

surviving a dog attackThere may never be a time in which you need this information.  You may never find yourself in a situation where a dog is going to attack you or your family.  As gentlemen we should not shy away from information just because we don’t think it could happen, but we are prepared if it does happen.  I debated on even doing this show.  The reason is because I do not want to shine a negative spotlight on dogs.  However, I do feel like this could save someone’s life or save someone from an emergency room one day.  Remember, dogs are not bad, people are bad and train dogs to be bad.  Most of the reasons why we are bitten is because we did something wrong.  It is up to us to make sure that we are able to spot their body language and understand what they are trying to tell us.  With this bit of information, we could save thousands of trips to the emergency room every year.  There are some situations that are unavoidable.  Some situations where you are going to be bit, this is the topic of the show today.

How do you survive a dog attack

    • what kind of signs should we notice before a bite
    • why do dogs bite
    • what situations are more likely to result in a bite
    • if you find youself in a situation you can’t get out of
      • how do you reduce your likelihood of needing medical attention

Prepping 101- Food

Prepping 101- FoodThere has been very little people that have lived that could or want to go a day without food.  The food industry is a multi billion dollar industry.  This means that we should take this subject seriously.  Our families need to eat, regardless of the situation at hand.  Just because there is an emergency, no matter what kind, we all need to put calories into our bodies.  The concept of living day to day with food is one that is foolish.  There is a plethora of different reasons why it is foolish, so we should be storing food.  Today I dive into everything I know about storing food.  From the absolute basics to excuses to give if someone finds your stash.

This begins the shorter series about prepping.  We all have our 5 basic needs and I am going to dive into all of them.  The reason why is so that we can all be prepared to satisfy our needs to keep not only us alive but our families alive.  If you have any information or want to be a guest on the show to explain your methods of prepping, please contact me.  Contact information below.

What are the basics of storing food?

    • how do you do this?
    • How much is enough?
    • How do I keep it from rotting?
    • Where should I store it?
    • How can I keep my costs low?

Advanced Prepping for Gentlemen

How To Find Prepping Gaps

how to find your prepping gapsA prepping gap is where you wish you had something but didn’t know you needed it.  We all have them and we all need the light shined on them.  There are plenty of ways to find these.  First off you can listen to shows that are dedicated to prepping.  These will tell you what to put in your kits.  To me this is not very useful.  I want to know why and where they will be used.  I also want to know what is the rate of return these have in my life.  The best way that I found to do this is to run different scenarios.  Cut the power off and see what you really need.  This shows a lot more than a list of stuff you should have.  Your family will be in better shape when you for having these things figured out ahead of time instead of day of.

How do we find our prepping gaps?

    • Lite version
    • Certain scenarios
    • Heavy version
    • Why you should find your prepping gaps
    • How you analyze the prepping gaps

Lessons From Past Disasters

lessons from past disastersDisasters happen when least expected.  We are not all sitting around waiting on them to occur but rather getting on with our daily lives.  But what happens when disasters do strike?  Is there a way that we can call upon our past experience to solve a current issue?  I can answer that with a whole hardy, yes!  It is not just something we should do, it is something we need to do.  Be a gentleman and take the time to learn from past disasters so that our families can be safer.  Learn from past disasters so that the disaster wont be as bad as before.  There are many different interpretations on how the disasters could have been handled, however these are mine.  It may behoove you to make your own opinions.

What can we learn from past disasters?

    • how they happened
    • what made them worse
    • what would have helped
    • could this happen again
    • how do we protect our families from them

Winterizing Your Home and Vehicle

winterizing your home and vehicleThe winter months are upon us.  From the past two shows I have been talking about getting ready for the winter.  This is something that we should all be thinking about and proactively working towards getting ready for.  Winterizing your home and vehicle takes little effort and can save you a lot of money and headache.  So in other words your rate of return of investment is super high for this project or projects.  I personally will be doing most of these things that I am talking about today.  Lets get serious about this though.  We have to work towards keeping our families warm without blowing up the budget.  We also need to make sure our vehicles are winterizing to do their job just in case we have an emergency.  Winterizing your home and vehicle is not a hard task to do, but there needs to be a high rate of return on your investment per project to keep you doing it every year.

what projects can we do for winterizing our home and vehicles?

    • Bring in all your outside firnature
    • seal up your windows and doors
    • curtains
    • create a mudroom
    • insulate under house
    • clean out gutters
    • get chimney cleaned
    • move in plants
    • bring out the big blankets
    • close up storm doors
    • wrap your pipes
    • add insulation behind electrical sockets
    • attic
    • get some salt
    • put cover over air conditioner
  • Car
    • battery check
    • windshield wipers
    • check four wheel drive
    • check anti freeze
    • change oil
    • get your survival stuff ready
    • tarp over windshield
    • be prepared to drive on ice

Bug Out Locations- Why You Want One and Where To Find One

bug out location why you want one and where to find oneThere may come a time one day that you will need to pack your things and bug out really quick and you will have to find a place to stay.  More than likely you will not ever need to bug out.  How often do you go on vacation, camping, want to set up a new business, have a retirement home, guest house, get away destination, or have something to sell quick to keep you from going into bankruptcy?  This is what I am trying to sell you on today.  The concept of a bug out location.  What is it and why should you have one, or in my case, many of them.  It is up to you, as a man, to be able to care for your family.  You should be prepared to house your family if something bad does happen in or around your town.  My suggestion is to act now and prepare before you really need to react.
