Retirement for Young Gentlemen Part 2/2

Retirement for young gentlemen part 2The last podcast that I did had no answers in it.  Retirement for young gentlemen part 1 was a whole lot of depressing knowledge.  Part 2 has all my answers in it.  I went through everything that I can think of to start preparing for the day that I retire in ways that is harder for the government, economy, or some scum bag to devalue or take away.  These are some of the ultimate goals that I have for my family and myself over the next few decades.  I urge you to think about your own place in today’s financial world and if it is possible for you to retire when you want.  There are ways to do this without the stress of worrying about the economy and the stock market.

In the podcast today I spoke about and told you that I would link in show notes:

How should young gentlemen prepare for retirement

  • How much health insurance should I get
  • How to diversity your stock market portfolio
  • Where to find investment opportunities
  • Assets versus Liabilities
  • Building your own business
  • Viewing your home as an asset
  • How can your home value be brought down and raised
  • Investing in land
  • How to make the land value grow
  • How and where do I prepare to retire
  • The conclusion of the 2 part retirement series

Retirement for Young Gentlemen Part 1/2

retirement for young gentlemen part 1To a young gentleman, retirement cannot be further from a reality.  For some of us we have years before we ever have to start thinking about it.  Today I am going to convince you that you should be concerned about it.  We take a quick look through history of the U.S. economy and how retirement was effected by it.  This matters to us.  Rather you like it or not a lot of people have their retirement tied up along side of the economy in the form of stocks in their 401K.  There are people in the world that will rob, cheat, and steal your money from you.  We, as gentlemen, need to have a way to keep our retirement from slipping out of our hands.

Make sure you look out for part 2 of the podcast.  I will be talking about how to make sure that you have money when you retire.  This will be alternative ways to acquire money and assets over time to make sure that you have some ready for retirement.

Why should we be planning for our retirement as young men?

  • We look back over the past 30 years of our economy
  • Focus on what happened in 2008 when so many people lost their retirement
  • How our 401K, pension, 403b, and IRA is linked to the economy
  • How do we normally plan to retire
  • What can you do within your normal retirement plans
  • What is to come for part 2 of the podcast

Preparing For A Job Loss

preparing for job lossGoing back to 2008, we all saw jobs being lost and worried if we were next.  There is always a possibility that we could loose our jobs and be forced to make difficult decisions financially.  As men we will just stand in fear and hope for the best.  As gentlemen we will prepare for the worst and then reap the benefits if nothing happens.  When you look at what could be the benefits of being prepared for a job loss and how not being could be an issue to your family, the decision to work towards this goal is a no brainier.  As gentlemen and family men should be ready to handle job loss with stride and be prepared to step up our game.  There is even a way to benefit from a job loss, it is all just in how you look at it.

I spoke about analyzing your Net Worth in the show today.  Check out the podcast where I went into depth on the subject http://skilledgentlemen.com/2016/01/27/increasing-your-net-worth/

How should we prepare for a job loss

  • When have we seen this happen before?
  • How can you spot being fired early
  • How can you spot your company going out of business early
  • What do you do if you see this coming
    • What to do when you are first hired
    • What to do during your employment
    • What to do if you see yourself getting let go soon
    • What to do after the job loss
    • How a job loss can be an opportunity
  • What if nothing happens

Increasing Your Net Worth

increasing your net worthDo you know your net worth?  Regardless of if you like it or not, finances play a large roll in everyone’s lives.  We cannot focus solely on the subject of Net Worth, however it should be cognizant of it for many reasons.  The whole concept at first sounds like a complete waste of time to calculate.  The only people this really matters to are the wealthy and extremely wealthy.  After doing research on the topic I found that keeping up with your Net Worth is an extremely important tool, even for the common gentleman.  The idea is having a snapshot of what your money is doing for you and what your purchases are doing for you.  This can be useful when figuring out if your budgeting is working and if you are planning for the future.  Money is a topic that many people shy away from which can be a horrible thing.  Don’t be too worried about money, but do not ignore what could be staring right at you in for form of a red net worth total.

I do plan to start doing a lot more with the topic of finances.  If you know about dealing with money or work within the industry, please contact me with your information.  I would love to pick your brain at the benefit of the listenership.  Details for contacting me are below.

Why should gentlemen think about their new worth?

  • What does Net Worth mean?
  • Should we care about our Net Worth?
  • How do we calculate it?
  • How can we increase our Net Worth?
