The History of Halloween

the history of halloweenHalloween is a holiday that is deeply rooted in traditions.  Trick or treating, carving pumpkins, and dressing up are all ancient traditions.  Traditions that you may not be familiar with.  Halloween traditions that are being celebrated today, just in a different manner.  So why do we not look back and remember what we are really celebrating?  For people like me, it is a time to watch old horror movies, drink beer, and hang out with friends.  For children, it is a time of sugar comas and running around after dark.  Why not, as a parent and a gentleman, take a moment this year and speak to your children about the ancient history of our beloved holiday.  Take a moment to educate yourself and your friends about why this is not a devil worship holiday.  More importantly, enjoy your Halloween holiday.  Eat candy, drink beer, and watch some old movies that makes you question our fashion sense back in the day.

Remember that I am taking the last 2 weeks off of December from the podcast.  I will still have Email service, and I will be on the Facebook page.  I am just taking time away from the show.  The reason is because I need to do some reflection and figure out where I want the show to go next year.

What is the history of halloween?

    • what is Halloween
    • why do we celebrate halloween
    • why do we trick or treat
    • why do we dress up
    • why do we carve jack o lanterns

Scary Urban Legends That Are True

scary urban legends that are trueIn the whole theme that I have created this week is revolving around one of my all time favorite holidays.  The last podcast that I did was Ghost Stories 2015 and those were really just stories.  Stories that may or (most likely) may not be true.  What I am going to talk about today is real.  These stories were started and became legends because they are true.  Urban Legends are stories that are passed down and sometimes hard to track whether or not they are true.  I have found either one or two sources that verify that it really happened.  So the scariest part of this whole thing is the fact that these urban legends are completely true.

Which urban legends turn out to be true?

This show was a lot of fun to research.  I also came across a lot of really scary stuff over the past few days.  To be honest, it was a lot of fun.  I hope you guys got something out of this.  We will be back to the regular shows on Friday.  We will be finishing up this month with the history behind Halloween and why we celebrate it.  Why we do certain things and why we hold on to certain traditions like going trick or treating and dressing up our kids.

  • Black Water
  • Forcible Kidney Removal
  • Buried Alive

Ghost Stories for 2015

ghost storiesPlaying along with the season that is Halloween, I am going to tell a few ghost stories.  There is not going to be anything to ghost stories 2015 that is going to educate you or expand your mind.  I decided that it is a fun holiday and ghost stories have always been my favorite past time during this holiday, and I wanted to share with you these stories I found.  Not just a few stories that I wanted to share with you, but some of my past and my feelings on related things like horror movies and horror based video games.  I also dive into my high school years when a bunch of us guys sat around on a saturday night and played horror video games while eating tacos and soda.  This is Halloween.  Dress up, go to parties, have fun, and drive safe!  Do not be an idiot that decides to drive drunk and end up killing someone.

This will be a tradition for us.  Ghost Stories 2016 will happen one year from today.  Let me know if you really enjoy this and I will keep them coming year after year.

Enjoy a few ghost stories this year!

  • Shadow Man
  • 2 sentence ghost stories
  • Babysitting my cousin
  • horror based video games
  • Why do we enjoy getting scared
  • Things that creep me out
  • The wrong parents

How To Tell A Good Story

how to tell a storyWe all have a story to tell.  But have you every been listening to the story and almost fell asleep or had to come up with some kind of response when they story teller asked a question to you?  You never want to be that guy.  Admit it, you always wanted to be like the “Most Interesting Man In The World” didn’t you.  You always wanted people to listen to your story with intent or listen with such enthusiasm that they hang onto your every word.  That is what today is about.  Portraying your story in a way that keeps people interested and hanging onto your every word.  You want to create a story that will keep people interested or at least awake without strong stimulants.  Story telling is a sort of art form that could end you with a date or with a new friend by the end of the night.  It could be used to make people think twice about their decisions through a fable that you remember.  So consider taking this seriously so that you can always tell your story like a gentleman.

How do you tell a story like a gentleman?

  • Know your audience
  • Know what they are willing to tolerate
  • Your story should come from your experiences
  • Don’t always make yourself the hero
  • Highlight the struggle
  • Keep your story simple
  • Practice your story
  • Understand that your story is important

Building A Pharmacy Garden

building a pharmacy gardenThe last podcast that I gave you was pretty harsh with how blunt everything was.  A gentleman should know the way things actually work around here.  One big thing that you should know how to do is take care of yourself.  This is what I had in mind when talking about a pharmacy garden.  It does not seem like there is much on the interwebs that has to do with a pharmacy garden.  This is not like the podcast I did a few months back which dealt with 11 herbs that you should add to your yard this year.  That podcast spoke about a bunch of plants to add to your meals and how they are good for you.  This pharmacy garden podcast is more about an immediate effect.  So you just got a minor cut while chopping onions.  Instead of getting the chemicals out heal you faster, just go to your pharmacy garden to heal the cut.  Understand that I am not a doctor so do not take this as, “I have a tree impaling my stomach, Clay said to get this plant to help” but go to a doctor to fix that.  But small cuts and burns, you do not need a doctor… just saying.

how do we build a pharmacy garden?

    • Cuts
    • Burns
    • Stomach
    • Bug Bites
    • Nausea
    • How to build a raised bed for your pharmacy garden

Blue Pill or Red Pill

blue pill red pillYou take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”  In life we have to make our own decisions.  The process of these decisions are based on information that is fed to us by government, peers, the news, our own perception, and other stimuli and then condensed into an idea.  What if I told you that this information is biased?  What if this information is not necessarily fact and the truth is being covered up.  This sounds like conspiracy theory to me, right?  In some cases, yes but in a lot more cases, no.  It is more than likely truth within opinion.  Today’s podcast will enlighten you to some of the biggest lies that we are told in which we make decisions.  The red pill today is how the government really works against us.  The red pill is how companies that have our health as their #1 priority is actually against us.  The red pill today is how we should be responsible for our own lives and make our own decisions.  I do not expect you to be on board with everything you hear today, but I do expect your to be at least somewhat consonant of how things really work and expect you to do your own research to form your own opinion.

so are you going to take the red pill or the blue pill?

  • The red pill
    • The government doesn’t want you to succeed
      • They want you to pay your taxes and shut up
      • to depend on them at all cost
        • your tax money goes to more control
    • Big pharm wants you to stay sick
      • Why would they want you to get better?
        • You pay their bills
    • That business and government go hand in hand
      • monsanto and usda revolving door
      • federal reserve is a private business
  • Blue pill
    • everything is fine
    • nothing bad will ever happen to me
      • or my family
    • we can eat what we want and never get sick

Winterizing Your Home and Vehicle

winterizing your home and vehicleThe winter months are upon us.  From the past two shows I have been talking about getting ready for the winter.  This is something that we should all be thinking about and proactively working towards getting ready for.  Winterizing your home and vehicle takes little effort and can save you a lot of money and headache.  So in other words your rate of return of investment is super high for this project or projects.  I personally will be doing most of these things that I am talking about today.  Lets get serious about this though.  We have to work towards keeping our families warm without blowing up the budget.  We also need to make sure our vehicles are winterizing to do their job just in case we have an emergency.  Winterizing your home and vehicle is not a hard task to do, but there needs to be a high rate of return on your investment per project to keep you doing it every year.

what projects can we do for winterizing our home and vehicles?

    • Bring in all your outside firnature
    • seal up your windows and doors
    • curtains
    • create a mudroom
    • insulate under house
    • clean out gutters
    • get chimney cleaned
    • move in plants
    • bring out the big blankets
    • close up storm doors
    • wrap your pipes
    • add insulation behind electrical sockets
    • attic
    • get some salt
    • put cover over air conditioner
  • Car
    • battery check
    • windshield wipers
    • check four wheel drive
    • check anti freeze
    • change oil
    • get your survival stuff ready
    • tarp over windshield
    • be prepared to drive on ice

Cold Weather Recipes

cold weather recipesThere is no denying that the cold is upon us.  This is the time of year that the darkness starts to overtake the light in their everlasting battle for time in the sky.  Not only are we going to experience shorter days but we are in the prime of the year to have recipes that bring back major traditions.  The concept of traditions can bring someone back in their memories to a time in their lives that made them super happy.  Traditional recipes that make them remember a time that was once an easier time.  Recipes that are not just easy to make and useful to clean out the garden but that have a wonderful taste.  Along with stunning recipes but traditions that make these recipes what they are.  Alone they are just a soup and a stew but with a tradition behind them make it so much more.

Head over to my friends site called Carolina Givens where he has an awesome list of recipes to choose from.  He is not a sponsor but he does deserve some of your love.  Check him out!

What are some cold weather recipes that i should look into?

  • Vegetable Soup
  • Brunswick Stew
  • Why I have these recipes on my list
  • What traditions are related to these recipes
  • Why you should consider bringing these recipes into your traditions

Bug Out Locations- Why You Want One and Where To Find One

bug out location why you want one and where to find oneThere may come a time one day that you will need to pack your things and bug out really quick and you will have to find a place to stay.  More than likely you will not ever need to bug out.  How often do you go on vacation, camping, want to set up a new business, have a retirement home, guest house, get away destination, or have something to sell quick to keep you from going into bankruptcy?  This is what I am trying to sell you on today.  The concept of a bug out location.  What is it and why should you have one, or in my case, many of them.  It is up to you, as a man, to be able to care for your family.  You should be prepared to house your family if something bad does happen in or around your town.  My suggestion is to act now and prepare before you really need to react.

What I Learned In HazMat School

what i learned in hazmat schoolFor the past few weeks I have been studying and testing to become what is known as a HazMat Technician.  These are the individuals that are seen in the spaceman outfits walking around with hazardous materials during emergencies.  This class ended up being one of the hardest classes that I have ever taken because we were studying how chemicals react with each other and how we can stay alive while trying to save lives.  HazMat is short for hazardous materials in which we work to try and stop.  During this class my eyes were opened to the crazy amount of stuff that goes up and down the road and rail at any time.  It is scary.  Today I am going to scare you with what I learned in HazMat school.

what i learned in hazmat school

  • What is it like to be in a level A and level B suit
  • What hazmat is going down the road
  • What hazmat is going down the rail
  • What app can you download for free to tell you what is inside the tanker truck
