Learning a second language

learning a new languageLearning a second language is one of the hardest things a gentleman can take on.  A new way of thinking, forming words, and different characters all are completely backwards from your first language.  Once started doors start opening, just a crack though.  You peak through and then see what is to come.  More experiences, more money, better traveling experience is just the beginning.  Communication and language is what makes us a social animal and stretching the mind to learn a second language is what gentlemen have done for years.  Today we are going to talk about language and how to start learning a second one.

Today’s topics are:

  • why gentlemen should learn a second language
  • the benefits of a second language
  • tips and tricks on how to get used to speaking a second language
  • resources to learn for free

The Basics of Ropes

the basics of ropesThis is not the basics of ropes in the nau-tay way.  We, as gentlemen, need to know how to fend for ourselves when and if we are alone around the homestead.  Being able to drag a lawn tractor up a hill or pull a log a long distance by yourself is one of the most manly things that can be done and with the commanding force that is ropes, you are now a gentlegod.  Ropes are easy to learn and require little upkeep, as long as you tie the knots like they are meant to be tied.  Along with that you have to have the right rope for the right situation.  No need in buying a cheap rope when you put up your tire swing if in a few months your child goes to swing and it breaks.  We need to know these ropes and knots because we cannot physically double and even triple our strength, however a rope can.  Tree assenting, log dragging, and even repelling off mountains all should be in a gentleman’s mental toolbox.

Join me today as we talk about:

  • This will be pared with the YouTube videos
  • Some common applications of ropes
  • What hardware is needed
  • Knots that need to be learned
  • Different kinds of ropes to choose from

Breaking away from the pack

packIf you ever needed a kick in the ass, today is your show.  In our everyday life we have packs of people that we are forced to interact with.  There is a chance that some of these people are not like us.  There is a chance that some of these people are losers and should be let go.  We need to, as gentlemen, be able to spot this pack and break away from it to be better husbands, fathers, grandfathers, leaders, business owners, and employees.  There are goals to be met and money to be made, what are you doing in your everyday walk to make these dreams come true and to make these goals reality.  Most of the pack that we interact with are not willing to make themselves better and not willing to do more than what they have to do to get the job done, we are not these people.  Remember my challenge to write down your goals and at the bottom destroy your pen by making sure you are clear that its not over until I win.  I mentioned in the show that I am willing to be apart of your pack and was absolutely serious about this.  If you have a goal or a dream and have no one to talk to about it, email me at skilledgentlemen@gmail.com and let me be apart of your pack.  I am appreciative of everyone that contacts me and promise that I am a very approachable person.

Join me today as we talk about

  • Defining the pack
  • Knowing where you fit in the pack
  • Why the pack is full of losers
  • How we sometimes slip into the pack
  • How Scrubs fit into this ideology
  • Being a leader at work
  • Being a leader over your flock
  • Creating a new flock
  • Stepping to live the life you want

Executive Protection for the Family blog series is finished!

I have just finished my first article series!  I have been writing about being an Executive Protection for the Family.  This series has been enjoyable to write and a challenge to say the least.

I write this because I am open to write for blogs as well as do guest interviews on your website.  Check out the series coming in August at Blog of Manly and on their new site Manly.is

With the completion of this series I will be enjoying a celebratory scotch.  Cheers my friends!

Food and Water Storage

food and water storage

When asked about what they are most concerned about, they usually answer “I want a roof over my families head, and food on the table”.  What if I could sell you on a concept that will almost completely alleviate the need for this concern? What if I could tell you this concept will not cost you any more than what you are already spending on food and water right now!  The easy task of adding stored food and water will greatly increase your chances of survival during times of need.  As gentlemen, we need to be responsible for ourselves and our families.  This comes down to being able to feed them and make sure they are healthy.  With just getting into the mindset of building a food and water storage we can take control of our future and be prepared for anything.

Join me today as I talk about:

  • Why people scoff at storage
  • My early summers with my grandparents
  • What the government says about food storage
  • How much food storage you should have
  • How much water storage you should have
  • How to and how much storage

Airway Management

Runners_pantingWhen speaking about executive protection for the family, I truly mean that we are the protectors of our family, a sheep dog if you must.  An executive protection agent only works for a few hours and goes home, we are there always so we need to be prepared to handle and deal with an emergency whenever it presents.  One disaster that could happen could be someone experiencing an emergency dealing with their airway.  Airway management consists of the possibility of shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, respiratory distress, or respiratory arrest.  So how do we deal with possibly airway emergencies?  I walk you through all of the different signs and symptoms of an airway emergency and talk about how to deal with them today in the next part of the medical series that deals with executive protection for the family.  If this is not your idea of executive protection and wish for more of a tactical show, stay tuned for future shows dealing with the tactics of executive protection for the family.

Join me today as I talk about:

  • What is an airway emergency
  • What is considered normal
  • Instructions to help someone through an airway emergency
  • When to call 911
  • What you can add to your medical kit to help in an airway emergency

Being a Mentor

being a mentorAs a gentleman we are tasked to be a mentor to anyone that will have our instruction.  Being a mentor is a honor and should be treated as such.  People come to us wanting to learn what we have to offer so being a mentor also means that we are teachers.  Being a teacher and a mentor I am personally responsible for making sure my thoughts and my instruction is taken the correct way or it could be difficult retract the information.  Growing up and still today I have a variety of people that I call mentor ranging between fictional characters, podcasters, and captains.  There are different types of situations in which you may be considered mentor in and we need to discuss the teaching techniques that we can employ.

Join me today as I talk about:

  • Who is called mentor
  • Why we need a mentor
  • Who I call mentor
  • Teaching skills

Pulling off a First Date

pulling off the first dateCongratulations on getting your first date with this new person in your life.  The first date is the most important date you will have because it sets yourself apart from everyone they have been out with thus far.  So no pressure, but this is important.  What do you do and where do you go?  What should you do and what should you avoid doing.  All are questions that plague the mind of the gentleman batchlor because we are always trying to get the next date with this special someone.  There are some things that we can do to increase our chances so the date can be a success and somethings that we can do that decrease the chances that the date will end on a good note.  Gentlemen should be a step above the rest because we are decisive and ready for most situations.

Join me today as we talk about

  • Mistakes men make on the first date
  • Why going to the movies is a terrible first date
  • Why being chivalrous is always a great idea
  • Why employing the ideas from Executive Protection for the Family is applicable

Everyday Carry – What is in your pockets

everyday carry what is in your pocketsEveryday we walk around this world carry stuff in our pockets.  Have you ever stopped to think about what we carry in our pockets?  There are many different reasons we woke up and put our wallet in our pocket but does it serve multiple purposes?  We can only have so much in our pockets, so what are the most valuable things we can carry?  This is a decision you have to make for yourself because it is up to you.  There are many situations we can find ourselves in that our carry could help us from something simple as needing a flashlight to see under a table to someone holding us up and needing our firearm.  You do not get to pick your disaster, but you can decide rather or not you will be able to carry yourself away from it.  So man up and analyze what you have in your pockets.

How to Use a Chimney Starter

It is the time of year where you go out and grill at least once a week.  In way to many situations there have been men that go out and soak their charcoal with too much lighter fluid and put their meat on way to early.  This creates a terrible situation in which your food taste like crap.  Drew set out and spent a lot of time to describe how to use a Chimney Starter for the charcoal.
