Driving like a Gentleman

StateLibQld_1_118784_Man_driving_a_car_in_the_WWI_peace_procession,_Brisbane,_1919When people think of defensive driving they think of driving school when they were a teenager.  I am here to say that is not enough.  As gentlemen we need to understand that road rage and aggressive driving is a real problem and can lead to worse problems than getting to work late because you were behind someone slow.  There is a serious problem in this nation and world when there are statistics of people dying from road rage.  Our families are the ones we hold close and when we are acting like a fool on the road, we put them in danger.  So I present to you a list of things that we can do to change our notions of defensive driving and be gentlemen on the road.

Today we will talk about:

  • Statistics on Aggressive driving and road rage
  • Why this topic is important to gentlemen
  • How we can be safer on and off the roads

During the show I mentioned a few websites:

What Burglars Don’t Want You To Know

w024Every year 2 million people have their homes broken into.  I have hinted on this in podcast past but have never set down and done a show about the tricks that burglars use to victimize us.  If you would like to look back on the show that I talked about this, check out Home Defense.   There are hundreds of people out there that produce these lists and I would advise reading through a few.  The ones that I grabbed from were Readers Digest and SimpliSafe.

Join me today as I talk about:

  • Why we should be worried about this
  • What are the statistics that involve this topic
  • What are 8 different tricks that burglars use to break in
  • How do we fend against these tricks

herb gardenAn herb garden is an essential use for cooking and keeping your family healthy without major supplements.  Herbs are able to heal well beyond what a pill can do and the entire time be easy on the person.  Herbs can make or break a meal or turn a sub par meal into a meal to remember.  With so many benefits to herbs, why would you not grow some?  There are many different herbs in existence that you can grow, how do you find some that you can keep alive?  The list that I am presenting to you will help you make that decision.

Join me today as we talk about:

6 Influential People of History

Cairo_conferenceAs a gentleman, I have to look back in history and see what has been done and learn from our past leaders and extract every ounce of life lessons that I can so that I can be a great person.  I have assembled 6 people from our history that have done major good and major evil and done an attempt at educing a life lesson.  One person in this list has been vilified to the extent to leave a nasty taste in ones mouth.  Even though that is evident we have to find the positive lessons to be learned.

Today we will discuss:

  • Why we need to learn from these people
  • Why it is important to look past faults and overcome
  • How we can learn from:
    • Bruce Lee
    • Winston Churchill
    • Adolf Hitler
    • Nelson Mandela
    • Meg Whitman
    • Battalion Chief John Austin

When you listen you will hear a link that I would like you to check out:

Also I would like for you to get an idea of the sizable building the Worcester Cold Storage Fire was.

Preparing for the Winter Vortex

Please be safe today and I’ll be on Twitter takin pictures and cracking jokes today. Take a look and follow!

Basics of Brewing Beer

brewing beerA day that I always look forward to is brew day.  I say always like I do this all the time and have been for years.  The cruel fact is I just learned how to do this and have only had 2 good turnouts and one bad.  To be honest though, it is not a hard thing to do.  Especially when you start out with the kits.  Remember, this is not an advanced show!  I am certain there are many ways to do this but I have taken the way that gets me started and not spend more than $100 to start learning.  Beer not only breaks down walls and strengthens friendships, it is an essential part of our history.  Brewing beer is really simple to do, as long as you have someone to explain the process and you follow basic sanitation procedures.  Brewing is also relatively cheap to get into because you really only need some basic materials.   So today I am going to have a friendly chit chat about the history of beer and why it is essential in today’s society and about my past brew days!

Today’s topics will include:

  • Why was beer such a large part in history
  • How my past brew day went
  • Basics of brewing
  • Basic equipment needed to start yourself
  • Some cool equipment you can build to aid your brewing

Executive Protection for the Family: Pre-Planning

preplanWhether it is overseas or to the store, a preplan is made.  Sometimes unconsciously and sometimes it is laid out in great detail so that our intentions are made clear like where we are going and how long do we expect to be there.  I propose that making sure that you spouse knows what you know before you leave to go on your big trip is essential but do you really have to do this every time you leave the home?  In my opinion, yes but you already do this anyway.  Many gentlemen that I talk to say they want to care for their families and want to make sure they are protected but they seem to skip this very important topic.

Today we will discuss:

  • Why it matters
  • Answering a few concepts
  • How I planned for my overseas vacation
  • Why you don’t have to preplan everything, but you already do

Executive Protection for the Family: Home Defense

castleEvery person feels their home is a castle.  It is somewhere where they can come home and relax after a hard day at work but is it really all that safe?  A better question would be, could it be safer?  That is a topic that I would like to cover in the series that I have dubbed Executive Protection for the Family.  If you have not listened to the other shows, I would encourage to check out the hyperlink in the last sentence and that will update you with all of the shows we have done on this topic over the past few weeks.  I do want to begin by saying everything you do to defend your home should be within the laws that govern your area.  Your family is the most important group of people that you have, why not take a few FREE steps to further defend your home from potential criminals.

Today we will discuss:

  • Why it is important a gentlemen defend his castle
  • The difference between a soft and hard target
  • How to harden your home for free
  • Small investments toward safety
  • How not to go to jail over this

12 Mile Homestead Blog

Over at the blog site I am documenting my somewhat daily accounts of building my dread homestead.  I have named it the 12 mile homestead because we are 12 miles from the nearest city.  As a boy I had always wanted to live in the middle of no where and do what I want to do.  Now is that time for me.  Starting in May of 2014 I bought this house on 3 acres of land which included a wooded area and a creek and through summer, fall, and winter I had been working on fixing up the old farm house and turning it into what my wife had been looking for in a home.  Now that it is bearable outside now and I can work without freezing, my attention has shifted to working the land and preparing the homestead.

My belief is that the land should provide me with some kind of value.  There are many types of value but in my definition in regards to the land, it means food and health.  Many people criticize my efforts to work hard and do what is right for the land.  In my eyes that is a tragedy that people would criticize someones hard work.  As a nation we used to say that someone was strong and tough because they done hard work, now we call that same person an idiot because there is an easier way to do it.  I spoke before in a podcast about how an egg goes from a chickens butt to the store.  It starts with the chicken being hatched in a huge hatchery and then shipped to another chicken house along with a 100,000 others to start laying eggs.  The whole time it is there it eats food that has to be shipped across many miles.  Then it gets shipped to the store where it sits in a cooler that costs money to run.  After it sits there it goes out on the shelf for you to spend money on.  Not to mention how much fuel it cost for you to drive there and back.  But all the hard work that I put into the coop will keep a chicken for its entire life and all of its eggs will only be a short walk away.  Nothing more harmed on earth.  That is one reason why I do what I do on the homestead.

If you enjoy this kind of stuff, that is starting a homestead or just in general growing food to feed your family, check out the blog and read up on why and how I am doing it.

Do You Fall Under This Label?

imagesThis group of people are in the fringe of society.  They are at sometimes the person that you envy and sometimes the person that you can’t stand.  We have been in the news off and on for the past few years being misrepresented and verbally abused.  Being misunderstood is something that happens everyday and we accept that.  The scary part is, you are one of them!!  So what am I talking about?  What could possibly be the people I speak of?  Listen and find out!!!

Join me today as I talk about:

  • Who these people are
  • What do these people do
  • How to spot these people in the stores
  • Why you are part of this group
  • How to accept and embrace this fact
