Pulling off a First Date

pulling off the first dateCongratulations on getting your first date with this new person in your life.  First dates are the most important dates you will have because it sets yourself apart from everyone they have been out with thus far.  So no pressure, but this is important.  What do you do and where do you go?  What should you do and what should you avoid doing.  All are questions that plague the mind of the gentleman bachelor because we are always trying to get the next date with this special someone.

There are some things that we can do to increase our chances so the date can be a success and somethings that we can do that decrease the chances that the date will end on a good note.  Gentlemen should be a step above the rest because we are decisive and ready for most situations.  Keep in mind that I am not going to be talking about playing games.  Games should not be in a Gentleman’s play book.  Be yourself and make some good decisions for your first date.

Dogs – A Guide to Their Care

dogs a guide to their careDogs are mans best friend.  As soon as you bring them into your home, they start to enrich our lives.  They take care of us just as much as we take care of them.  The only big part of take care of them is figuring out the best way to make sure they are happy.  That is where today’s podcast episode steps in.  Dogs aren’t hard to care for.  Mainly just feed them, bathe them, walk them, and play with them and they will love you forever.  However, it is the details in the middle that no one gets you ready for.  The times where your dog gets sick or hurt and your family is standing there looking at you for answers.

As a Gentleman, you should be prepared to care for your dogs if something was to happen to them.  You have to be knowledgeable enough to be a force for good when they get hurt. This is just a taste of what could be discussed in dog care as a complete subject. I will eventually go into further details about how to train them and how they can be homestead dogs but for now we will stick with the basics.

Why Are People Afraid of Survivalism – Throwback Episode

why people are afraid of survivalismWe hear a lot in the media about “that crazy survivalist” or “those paranoid preppers” ruining things for everyone and how they are some of the worst people.  Well if you can imagine, we are not that way.  However there is a since of fear that people have in their heads that we are crazy, eccentric, hermits that live in a bunker living on nothing but MREs.  That is not true for the majority of us, however there is a fear involved when people start talking about prepping.  When I get into a conversation with others about survivalism they always to their favorite excuses on why they are not into survivalism which includes prepping.

This is what I am discussing today.  Why are people so afraid of survivalism and then at the end I speak about quick and easy ways to get started with prepping.  To me survivalism is a word that I associate with responsibility.  Responsibility for my family and responsibility for myself.  Stop being so afraid and MAN UP!

Why are people so afraid of Survivalism?

  • My thoughts about survivalism
  • Why I feel like there is a responsibility in prepping
  • The excuses I hear all the time in opposition toward survivalism
    • it takes too much money to prepare
    • too much time involved in prepping
    • it it is too much to think about in prepping
    • Someone else will help me if something goes wrong
    • Survivalists are paranoid

Being A Leader – Throwback

being a leaderRather you know it or not, you are a leader.  You are a leader in your home, workplace, and in your social circle.  There are people that are looking at you and trying to figure out what makes you such a great person.  People are looking at you and trying to analyze how they can be just like you.  The concern that has to be discussed is are you being a great leader or are you being a crappy leader?  Are you making decisions based on convenience or because they are the right thing to do.

Can you say that the people that you influence are going to be great themselves or are they going to be people that you loathe?  This is the topic of the day.  How to be an leader.  There are many schools of thought in which great leaders are picked apart and their decision scrutinized to make a list of attributes.  The best list that can be made is the list that you come up with.  Sit down one day and make your own list of attributes that make the best leaders.

Would 18 year old You be Disappointed?

18 year old you disappointedYou are your own man.  This is evident by how you live your life on a daily basis.  But have have you been asleep behind the wheel?  If you were to go back in time to when you were 18 years old, would he be disappointed in how his life turns out?  We do not know everything that we are going to be at that early age, however we do have a power to change into what we want to be now.  When I was 18 years old, I wanted to be an MP (military police officer) for the military.  That changed so much between then and now.  I know better because I am older and wiser.  18 year old me had no clue how awesome my life would be today.

I am going to help you analyze rather or not you peaked in high school.  This is a real issue that needs to be discussed.  If you do not like what you hear, chances are, at age 18 you peaked.  This doesn’t have to be the end of your story, it just has to be the day it changes for good.

14 Skills to Teach your Children

14 skills to teach your childrenYour children are sponges for knowledge.  You have to teach them the skills that they will need to survive in the world.  Your children look to many different people for inspirations on how they should act.  Movie characters, people in music videos, YouTube creators, and anyone else that may catch their eye.  They see how the character acts and associates that with how they should act.  You, as a gentleman, should have already been teaching them before this happens.  A gentleman should always be a beacon of how to act in any situation.  You should be teaching your children the skills and concepts they need to be a gentleman themselves, no matter their gender.

Today’s podcast episode is about just that.  We dive into 14 different skills that you should teach your children.  These range from conceptual skills like spotting abusive relationships to hard skills like using a knife.

Gardening Like A Gent – Throwback

gardening like a gentDepending on who you talk to gardening can be an easy hobby to adopt or a burden that will haunt you.  To be honest, the pessimist that says that you will have to endure weed pulling, bugs, and failed crops probably never put a seed in dirt before.  Starting from and early age I have put germinated seeds and watched energy flow from seedling to vegetable and then back to seed.  My grandfather made it a point to show me how this works and made sure that I had the fire in my heart to be self sustaining in my gardening.  The benefits from gardening is very apparent in people that enjoy this hobby vs people that go to the grocery store, and that’s just my two cents!

With a little bit of help and a bit of guidance, you can enjoy an amazing garden this year.  Your family will be healthier and you will be happier with the amazing food you produce for yourself.

How do I get started with Gardening?

  • How gardening is a complicated subject, not really
  • My hatred for Food Lion commercials
  • How Grocery stores make you believe how this is hard
  • Unspoken health benefits of gardening
  • The normal health benefits of gardening
  • How to start your venture in January
  • What to plant now
  • How easy it is to start
  • How to deal with no space

Basics of Companion Planting

basics of companion plantingIt is cold around here.  Looking across the landscape of frost and frozen trees makes me think about this years garden.  There is a practice that some gardeners use called companion planting.  This is the use of a plant to either work in harmony with another plant or to repel pests away from that plant.  There are a few rules that you should know about, but generally, it is an easy concept to grasp.  If you are a gardener, this is a show that you should really enjoy and get something out of.  If you are not, the use of companion planting will increase the health and vitality of the tress and shrubs that you have around the house.

Join me today as I speak about the use of companion planting and how it can be useful to your gardening efforts.
